Our most famous film director (83), creator of Turkish Delight, Robocop and Basic Instinct, also counts as one of the greatest Jesus experts in our country. His fascination with the prophet, the philosopher, the revolutionary, the son of God (what is he anyway?) borders on an obsession. For decades, Verhoeven has been studying this central figure from Christianity, who inspired many millions of people. Now he dares to make a film of ‘his’ Jesus. “The church has made up that Jesus is God.”
