Technical director Tim Gilissen and chairman Hans Bredewoud resigned from Heracles Almelo on Monday evening. The club from Overijssel relegated this weekend from the Eredivisie after seventeen years.
The 39-year-old Gilissen, who was promoted to the Eredivisie as a player in 2005 with Heracles, has been responsible for the club’s sporting performance since 2019 as technical director.
“After the recent relegation, the board and I have come to the conclusion that we want to pave the way for the club’s early return to the Eredivisie,” Gilissen said on the Heracles site.
“Over the past three years, I have made my substantive contribution to the sporting successes of Heracles Almelo with heart and soul. There are also many beautiful moments. I wish the club, the supporters and the sponsors a lot of sporting success for the future.”
Heracles was above the relegation line for almost the entire season, but has fallen further and further in recent months. The coach’s team finished in sixteenth place after a tumultuous final round, after which the team of interim trainer René Kolmschot was sentenced to play-offs. In it, Excelsior lost twice, making relegation a fact.
