Danny Boyle opened up about his botched James Bond movie and revealed details about the plot he originally planned.
Back to the roots
Boyle said the 25th installment in the franchise, which would eventually be called No Time To Die and would be directed by Cary Fukunaga, was set in Russia. Bond’s origins would have been explored. Boyle also added that he had reservations about directing a Bond film from the start.
“I remember thinking, ‘Should I really get into franchises? Because they don’t really want anything else,’” Boyle said. “They want you to refresh it a bit but not really challenge it. However, we wanted to do something different. Strangely – it would have been very relevant now – it all took place in Russia, where Bond originated, during the Cold War. My script was set in present-day Russia and went back to its origins, and they (the producers) just lost, how shall I put it…they just lost faith in the film. It was really a shame.”
Who will be the new James Bond?
Danny Boyle was set to direct Daniel Craig’s final appearance as Agent 007. However, he left the project due to creative differences with the lead actor and producers. After being postponed due to Corona, the film was released in September 2022. When asked if Boyle would make another Bond film if the opportunity arose, he replied: “I don’t think so”. He also commented on who should play James Bond next, if it were up to him. For Boyle, only Robert Pattinson (“The Batman”) or Paapa Essiedu (“I May Destroy You”) come into question.
