Since it was launched in 2015, the Pop-Kultur Festival in Berlin has had one goal: to bring together young talents from the music scene, film and art and to introduce them to the world. Above all, the indoor and outdoor event in the Kulturbrauerei should be about broadening the visitors’ horizons for art.
The opportunity to get in touch with artists from a wide variety of backgrounds in workshops and discussion rounds is the purpose of the comprehensive program. It starts on August 30th – and until September 1st you can admire a variety of performances and concerts.
This year’s line-up includes New York slow core pioneers Codeine. In the early and mid-1990s, the band’s clumsy sound shaped a genre that would later become big with well-known names like Low and Carrissa’s Wierd. After a break of almost thirty years, they returned in 2022 with a long-lost album and are now playing what will probably be their last tour. A good opportunity to see the indie trio live again.
Also in attendance is indie rock singer Indigo Sparke. Her current album Hysteria was released in 2022 and was produced by Aaron Dessner, who not only founded The National but also worked in the studio with Taylor Swift. She will present her new record at the Pop-Kultur Festival. You can find everything else about the program here here.
As before, the Pop-Kultur Festival relies on full accessibility and inclusion so that all visitors can participate on an equal footing. An awareness team is also available at the event to ensure comprehensive security.

times
All concerts are spread over the various locations of the Kulturbrauerei. In addition to the Kesselhaus, this also includes the Frannz Club as well as the Alte Kantine and others. Overlaps in the program are therefore unavoidable. Codeine will be playing around Friday 1st September at 9.40pm at Kesselhaus. At the same time, the post-hardcore band Fheels will be playing at the Palais. So plan your walking routes and your concerts accordingly.
The complete schedule can be found on the Event website.
highlights
In addition to the musicians already mentioned, there are numerous other highlights at the Pop-Kultur Festival 2023. These include, for example, the project “Can I Kick It? Yes, You Can!”, which deals with the topic of football and pop culture in the course of the upcoming European Football Championship 2024. In the course of this there will also be some short films about the ball.
Other musical highlights that we would like to recommend to you are the Cologne rapper Albi X, the art pop artist Charlotte Brandi, whose album “An den Nightmare” was awarded five out of six stars by the ME editorial team, and also the R’n’B singer T’neeya. There are also many other young musicians who will rock the stages of the festival.
