VOLLEYBALL – The Dutch volleyball women have lost their final match at the World Cup in their own country. Japan was too strong in three sets, the game ended in 25-23, 25-23 and 25-21.
After the loss to Brazil on Friday, the quarterfinals were no longer feasible for the Orange, where Laura Dijkema from Beilen came in late today. Opponent Japan was already certain of the next round.
Dijkema came in at a 15-9 deficit in the third set. The Netherlands then crept closer to Japan, but a miraculous comeback did not come in Rotterdam.
The Netherlands finished fourth at the previous World Cup in 2018, but the rejuvenated team was no match for top countries such as Italy, China and Brazil in this tournament. In addition, the Orange also lost to Belgium. The Orange squad started the World Cup with the objective of reaching the quarter-finals.
