Digitalization exam for drivers who transport dangerous goods | Domestic

From January 1, 2024, the exam for drivers of dangerous goods will undergo complete digitalization. Instead of monthly sessions at one fixed location, next year the written exams will be organized during the week at a self-chosen time, spread across the sixteen recognized exam centers. This was announced by GOCA Flanders, the sector federation for car inspection and driving license exams.

Drivers who want to transport dangerous goods must obtain an ADR training certificate that is internationally recognized. This certificate must be renewed every five years. Drivers must take new training each time and take a new exam. Candidates must register themselves to take the exam from January 1, 2024.

The Department of Mobility and Public Works calls the digitization and linking of the IT systems of GOCA Flanders and the Flemish government a major step forward. “Candidate ADR drivers will have much greater flexibility in time and location and they will immediately know whether they have passed,” says Filip Boelaert, Secretary General of the Department of Mobility and Public Works.

Open book exam

The exam and training are also linked to My Citizen Profile. This digital platform of the Flemish government collects official data and government administration in a personal overview. ADR is the abbreviation of the French title of the Convention on the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (‘Accord relatif au transport international des marchandises Dangereuses par Route’).

3,000 exams are taken every year. Nothing will change about the exam itself. It remains an open book exam that lasts 90 minutes per category.
