According to IDC analyst Craig Simpson, “Organizations channel their investments both into their internal operations and their direct relationships with the outside world. Inward-facing spending is largely focused on improving efficiency and resilience, while transforming the customer experience has become a digital transformation priority for many companies”. Indeed, in a few years, customer experience has gone from being a cost driver to a differentiator for brands.

The development of back-office infrastructures in mind

Not all brands have the same priorities. Some are starting their digital transformation, while others, very advanced on the subject, are still looking ways to differentiate yourself through new technologies. The study shows among the strategic priorities of companies in terms of digital transformation, we find in particular the development of back-office infrastructures, connected manufacturing, or the optimization of the digital supply chain. Companies will devote 620 billion dollars of investments to it.

At the same time, the areas of customer experience, multi-experience engagement and omnichannel commerce continue to be popular with brands. They alone will generate $300 billion. Brands need to work on these topics to differentiate themselves. Those are the manufacturing industries that will be the most spenders This year. According to the study published by IDC, their cumulative expenditure will represent approximately 30% of the global investment of companies in digital transformation (i.e. 600 billion dollars).

Players in banking and supply services (water, gas, electricity, etc.) are expected to spend around 100 billion dollars. Financial services are expected to see the strongest growth in technology spending as IDC projects an average annual increase of 19% between 2022 and 2026.
