Diego Costa is back in the Premier League. The 33-year-old striker has signed a contract with Wolverhampton Wanderers until the end of the season. The born Brazilian, international of Spain, played football in England between 2014 and 2017 for Chelsea.
Costa has scored nearly 60 goals for the Blues in 120 games, making him a two-time champion. The striker then returned to his former club Atlético Madrid, with whom he reached the final of the Champions League in 2014. Costa became champion of Spain for the second time in his second period with the Madrilenians.
More than a year ago, the 24-time international (10 goals) went from Atlético Madrid to Atlético Mineiro in Brazil. However, Costa had his contract terminated at the beginning of this year.
Wolverhampton Wanderers already wanted to present the striker last week as a replacement for Austrian Sasa Kalajdzic, who had suffered a serious knee injury. Initially, however, Costa did not receive a work permit. The Wolves appealed and were able to add the attacker to the selection of trainer Bruno Lage on Monday.
“Diego is a real winner, with a lot of experience at the highest level,” said chairman Jeff Shi. “He brings something unique to our dressing room and onto the field.”
