Diederik recognizes the culture of fear at the former Matthijs van Nieuwkerk talk show DWDD all too well, he tells the desk of RTL Boulevard. “I certainly recognize it. I’ve had some really bad experiences too. Because I was also a guest at the table, I think I was a bit further away from it, so to speak. So that you don’t get the whole full layer.”
He continues: “I think the tricky thing about that kind of work environment is that there’s just such a lack of clarity when you’re doing it wrong and then you get a very violent blow from the pan. As a result, you see that people are mainly concerned with preventing mistakes throughout the day.”

Once Diederik ended up in a fight with Dieuwke. A verbal battle. “I did get into a real shouting match with someone once. That was not with Matthijs, but with Dieuwke. I finally said: ‘This just doesn’t work, there’s no point, because that’s not how we’re going to work it out.’”
He continues: “In the end, she did apologize for that. (…) I think that also has something to do with the fact that I was also half a guest. (…) It did not help me, but I also walked around the Westergasterrein crying a bit once or twice.”
