Diederik Jekel thinks it is not right when people laugh about the fact that Monica Geuze’s decision to stop vlogging has even made it to NOS. “This is not nobody,” he says.
Monica Geuze, one of the first vloggers in our country, announced yesterday to the surprise of many that she will stop vlogging after eight years. She finds it difficult to keep sharing everything from her private life, especially now that her daughter is getting older. At the same time, she announces that her relationship with Robbert Kroese has come to an end.
Diederik in the breach
Telegraaf star Wilson Boldewijn laughs about Monica’s ‘vloxit’ even the NOS has passed. “Do you remember where you were when you heard this?” he tweeted cynically.
Diederik Jekel, the science journalist known from RTL Boulevard, immediately corrects Wilson. “She has almost exactly the same number of YouTube subscribers as De Telegraaf. And if it stopped, it would certainly be news too. I don’t think we’re watching either, but it’s news for more than half a million people.”
Sympathy
Diederik has sympathy for Monica. “The reason for stopping now is also sad for her. So don’t mean that stupidly to the Telegraaf, because that is an important news service, more that what seems not important to one person does not necessarily have to be so to half a million others. You can’t objectively pretend she’s nobody or anything.”
Wilson responds as follows: “It’s just like Diederik.”
