The Top 2000 a gogo will be presented this year by Diederik Ebbinge. He succeeds Herman van der Zandt, who took over from the disgraced Matthijs van Nieuwkerk last year. Thomas van Luyn will present the Top 2000 quiz take on. Pop professor Leo Blokhuis remains the regular face in both programs.
Last year the Top 2000 season became a gogo presented once by Herman van der Zandt together with Leo Blokhuis. The original presenter, Matthijs van Nieuwkerk, decided in consultation with broadcaster NTR that it was better to withdraw as a presenter that year. That decision came after an extensive article by de Volkskrant about transgressive behavior by Van Nieuwkerk behind the scenes of The world goes on (DWDD). The Top 2000 quiz was canceled at the last minute for that reason last year.
Now new presenters have been found for both popular music programs, which have been regular fixtures during the festive month for years. Diederik Ebbinge, known for, among other things Promenade and The Lice Mother, calls it an honor to be able to join ‘such an iconic program’. He goes the Top 2000 a gogo present. “My knowledge of pop music runs until the mid-1990s, but fortunately I have the very young Leo Blokhuis by my side.” The program can be seen daily from Boxing Day until New Year’s Eve.
Quiz
Thomas van Luyn presents a new series of the Top 2000 quiz. Together they receive three duos of famous Dutch people in each episode who have their music knowledge tested. Van Luyn is happy with his new job. “I have been a big fan of the Top 2000 quiz and from Leo Blokhuis. In 2021 I have already won an edition together with singer Lakshmi. I think it’s fantastic to now be able to present the Top 2000 quiz myself, together with Leo, and I’m really looking forward to it,” he says in a press release. The quiz will be broadcast weekly on Saturdays in December on NPO 3.
In the Top 2000 a gogo reports about songs from the list, video clips with surprising facts and varied guests who share memories. The Top 2000 will take place for the 25th time this year. The list of 2000 songs is compiled by the station’s listeners. All kinds of television programs have also been devised around the broadcast of the list on NPO Radio 2.
