23 tracks for Ukraine
Carsten Ehlich, managing director of Merchcowboy, and Montreal were able to persuade a total of 23 different artists and bands to participate in the charity sampler: In addition to titles from the Broilers, Toten Hosen, Farin Urlaub and Sportfreunde Stiller, songs by Gentleman, Madsen , Jupiter Jones and more.
Ehlich says about the collaboration between the musicians: “We represent the strong solidarity in the music scene and call on you to show solidarity with the victims of the Ukraine war.” He goes on to explain the campaign plan that the money will come ” in the right place – our partner #LeaveNoOneBehind supports local organizations and provides direct and fast help.”
The mixtape enables medical care for Ukraine
Ruben Neugebauer from Leave No One Behind reports on the whereabouts of the donations: The movement supports “numerous projects and organizations that provide help in Ukraine or on the escape routes to Europe.” For example, medical material would be delivered or mobile shower containers made available . The motivation is to “stand in solidarity with those whose cities are being attacked with rockets and warplanes and whose shelters are being bombed.”
Montreal and Merchcowboy had recently joined forces to release a benefit mixtape for “solo self-employed people in the cultural sector who were threatened with their existence” in the wake of the corona pandemic. The result was crowned with success: A total of 56,000 euros in donations could be collected. After the outbreak of war in Ukraine, the initiators of the project sat down again to send it to the second round and to start working on the second mixtape. This came together “in record time” thanks to the active support of the musicians.

In addition to Montreal and Merchcowboy, countless other musicians are currently committed to Ukraine. Most recently, The Cure had sold charity shirts to generate donations, and Till Lindemann also organized an art auction to benefit the people of Ukraine. In addition, stars such as Abba, Sting or Madonna use their social media reach to express their solidarity and call for help.
