Former Bayern player Didi Hamann fears for the team’s support for coach Tuchel. He also has a suggested solution.
At FC Bayern Munich things are currently not going as coach Thomas Tuchel had hoped. Some of his top players don’t deliver, there are mistakes and heavily criticized tactical realignments.
Sky expert Dietmar Hamann has analyzed the record champions’ situation and expresses his suspicions. “It’s been ten or eleven months now, and if you don’t have the team behind you after four or six weeks, it will be incredibly difficult,” said Hamann, according to Sport1.de. “Now an awful lot of cracks have appeared.”
He wonders whether Tuchel can actually rely on his players. “I have my doubts about whether they will go through fire for him,” he said. He misses Bayern’s dominance. Even if they had won, the shine was missing. The 3-0 defeat against Leverkusen revealed their playing weaknesses.
But Hartmann also has a solution: support Matthijs de Ligt more. “For me, De Ligt would be one of the first players where I would say: You need players who make others better. He was captain at Ajax Amsterdam when he was 20 or 21.” The Dutchman is one of the players that Tuchel needs now and that he has to rely on. So far he has only played a minor role. “If you can’t rely on him, it will be incredibly difficult,” said the former national player according to Sport1.de.
Tuchel left the young star on the bench against Leverkusen, apparently because de Ligt had back problems. The Bayern coach relies on competition in the games for the midfield position. “Everyone is fighting for their place. The competition in this position is very intense,” he said at the press conference after the lost Leverkusen game.
But Hamann has not given up hope for his former club. If Rome comes to Munich soon for the Champions League game, Bauern will have a great chance of progressing in the premier class.
