Pole vaulter Wilma Murto received her EC gold medal on Thursday evening in Munich.

Murto smiled widely when he got on the highest podium and got the gold medal around his neck.

After this, we listened to the Maamme–song, which was indeed a special version.

Often, for example, at the end of rally races, the Estonian national anthem is accidentally heard. By the way, it resembles the Finnish national anthem, but at the end of the stanza, the repetition “Ei laaksoa ei kukkulaaa…” is missing.

This time there was no repetition at all, but we jumped straight into the second stanza of the Maamme song.

Murto sang along with the first verse, but he also seemed to be a little confused and tried to remember how the second verse went. However, the pole vaulter sang along with the second verse as well.

– I was surprised that it continued for so long. I thought it would be over by now. But it sounded good, Murto commented to Iltalehte.

Arto Bryggare thinks Wilma Murto is the world’s best pole vaulter.
