‘Did you know Matthijs was such a l*l?’

Wilfred Genee asked Rob Kemps yesterday in De Oranjewinter whether he knew ‘that Matthijs van Nieuwkerk was such a l*l’. “In any case, nothing happened during the recordings in Paris.”

After the media row about his sudden outbursts of anger, Rob Kemps finally sat at the table with the VI trio yesterday. In their talk show De Oranjewinter, he was asked about the incident, confirmed by BNNVARA, during the recording of the program that Rob is making with the discredited Matthijs van Nieuwkerk: Chansons.

‘Matthijs a l*l!’

That one incident comes on top of all the misbehavior of Matthijs van Nieuwkerk behind the scenes of De Wereld Draait Door. Wilfred Genee: “Did you know it was such a l*l, didn’t you?”

Rob: “Well, I don’t really like it either. Do you think he’s a l*l?”

Wilfred: “No, I really liked him in all the times I’ve seen him.”

Rob: “Because you ask, ‘Did you know it was a l*l?'”

Oops, a little pissed off.

Robert denies

Rob says he has never experienced anything strange with Matthijs during the recording of Chansons. “No never. I have always worked with him a lot. We will of course make a different program. We do work hard, because we get up early in the morning. We make four one-hour broadcasts and are in Paris for about three weeks.”

And what about the incident confirmed by BNNVARA? Rob would even have intervened. “I read that back and I think that is a pity, because it is then said: ‘There has been an investigation and there has been an incident in Paris’, but nothing has happened in Paris.”

Paris quarrel

It was just a fight, says Rob. “Look, what it is: if you are in a hostel with six guests for three weeks, then words will fall and when they fall… What you do: then you talk them out. That’s what happened, so I can say that. I can say that: once words fall and they are spoken, but that is not it.”

Wilfred: “But nobody had to get down on their knees and apologize?”

Rob: “No, but I really think that is a shame, because it is now thrown on the heap of DWDD and stuff.”

Mini sadness

Rob is disappointed that Chansons is now being damaged so much. “That’s my mini sadness, because it’s all much worse for those people with a burnout, but I think that’s a pity that I think: we make such a beautiful program that many people enjoy, then I want to say that nothing happened in Paris.”

Finally: does Rob believe that a witch hunt is taking place on Matthijs? “Of course it’s difficult, because if you say: ‘It’s a witch hunt’, then I’m back to that point with Matthijs. It’s never good. Everything you say, and especially if it just happened, everyone jumps on top of it. It’s better not to waste a few words on it.”
