Did you grow up in Buytenwegh? Then you probably remember this building

In the 1970s, many Zoetermeer residents grew up in the Buytenwegh district. In the then new shopping center on the Teldersrode, a building was built that used to house all kinds of organizations. Perhaps you went to the playgroup or got your books from the neighborhood library.

Library

The library opened in 1978 in the Buytenwegh district. Bookworms, mothers with children and the elderly: everyone knew how to find the central place in the shopping centre. It was not only a place to get the most beautiful books, but also to meet people from the neighborhood. As a child, you spent hours wandering between A and B books and wanted to stamp the white piece of paper yourself with the expiry date. The branch of the library in Buytenwegh closed its doors in 1997.

Kiss

Because of its location (because it is central and opposite the snack bar), the library building was an attractive meeting place for young people. To see each other, kiss, do bad things and hang out a bit. Youth center De Cirkel has also had a location in the district building for a long time.

Toddler fun

There used to be a playgroup in the same neighborhood building. Toddlers from Zoetermeer were brought here to play with other children, but also to prepare for kindergarten. Childcare locations did not exist at that time, except for staying at school. Many people from Zoetermeer recognize each other from the preschool where they played in the dolls corner, rode toy cars and sat in the sandbox.

Nowadays

From tattoo shops to a yoga studio for pregnant, expectant mothers and various social institutions have had a leak in the community building on Teldersrode. Nowadays the Piezo Foundation has the Craft Place there.
