The laundry of the Emma gala dresses is still spinning. We asked how the organizers of the Emma and Jussi gala feel about stretching the dress code.

The spring gala rumba is at its hottest. The costumes of the Emma gala organized in the first week of February have become a topic of conversation.
Many people said that they felt, for example, Erika Vikman’s pink, partially transparent overalls as offensive to the organizers of the gala. On the other hand, Robin Packalen’s army green sweater also caused a lot of irritation. Both the color choice and the beautiful tiles on the chest (which some thought were the Russian flag) were apt to cause summer brains.

Were the outfits seen on the red carpet inappropriate Musiikkituottajat – IFPI Finland ry deputy director, responsible producer of the Emma gala Tommi Kyrä?
– We hope that people will dress festively for the gala. Especially among the artists who perform, there are many who are interested in fashion and many want to express their artistry also through clothing. I think it’s great that people dress in different ways. Festive dressing means different things to different people, says Kyyrä.
– For us, no one needs to be sorry. That’s for sure! The hump emphasizes.
In the invitation to the Emma gala, the dress code was marked as usual “dark suit”. Kyyrä says that he does not know of a case where anyone has ever been turned away from the door of a gala because of their dress.
– The Emma gala is the biggest celebration of Finnish music, where we celebrate the previous year’s music creators, publications and performances. There is an awful lot of different and really versatile music at Emma. I would think that people at the front end are also open-minded when it comes to dressing. I have never felt that this (gala dressing) was somehow problematic, says Kyyrä.
Jussi gala position
How do the organizers of the Jussi gala approach gala dress and etiquette?
Chairman of the film industry Riina Liukkonen describes that compared to the Emma gala, the Jussi gala is somewhat more conservative. According to Liukkonen, it is often compared to the glamor of the Oscar gala in Finland. The dress code for the Jussi gala is a dark suit or tuxedo.
– We hope that the guests respect the occasion, but we are not strict with the dress code. We also welcome unusual and showy party styles. The Jussi gala is the biggest and only televised film industry gala of the year. If someone came there in an everyday sweatshirt, it could feel bad, says Liukkonen.
As a side note, Liukkonen says that he saw Vikman at the Emma gala.
– I didn’t expect to see her even in an old dance costume, but looking like Erika Vikman, gorgeous as usual, says Liukkonen.
– Even at the Jussi gala over the years, bold outfits have also been seen, and the male ones have also deviated from the norm, Liukkonen describes.
The Jussi gala will be organized and televised live on March 27.
