The fire broke out in the popular club Teatre, in the Atalayas district. Afterwards, the fire is said to have spread to two other discos. This is what the Spanish news site ‘La Verdad’ writes. Emergency services are currently still looking for people who were present in the discos. Authorities say the death toll could still rise. After all, there were many people present in the clubs when the fire broke out. The cause of the fire is not yet known.

According to the authorities, it was difficult to enter the building. They were only able to enter the building around 10 a.m. after they got the fire under control. The ceiling between the ground floor and the first floor of the worst-hit club, La Fonda Milagros, had come down; there could still be victims underneath.

Jairo, a distraught father, reported this morning to the closed street with three burnt-out discos from where his daughter had sent a heartbreaking audio message to her mother via WhatsApp hours earlier, just after 6 am. He showed it to radio reporters. “Mami, I love you. We’re going to die.” Other people’s screams could be heard in the background.

Jairo found his daughter’s car near the nightclub, but he did not hear from her all day. She was with a group of friends at the La Fonda Milagros club when the fire broke out just before 6am. The many worried relatives were taken to a hospital next to the morgue later in the afternoon, where the fatalities found in the disco had to be identified.

The municipal council announced on X that rescue workers are still extinguishing the fire. It also extended its condolences to the family and friends.”

Cause

Where exactly and what caused the fire remains to be investigated. La Fonda Milagros is located next to two other nightclubs, Teatre and The Golden. All three were prey to the flames, which initially rose meters high above the roofs and which the fire brigade managed to extinguish after two hours. According to the local newspaper ‘La Opinión de Murcia’ there was a short circuit in one of the large lamps of the disco, but this has not been confirmed by the authorities.
