Did the money actually run out on the production of the Patty Brard series? Is that why the ‘new images’ of the TV diva look so cheap? Lead actress Holly Mae Brood says no.
We now read it everywhere: Patty Brard is played by two different actresses in the drama series about her life. Holly Mae Brood plays the young version, Eva van de Wijdeven the older version. The ‘old’ images would look wonderful, but the ‘new images’ would look like a cheap copy of the TV Canteen.
Bridget critical
Rob Goossens, the TV expert from RTL Boulevard, speculates that the budget may have run out during the recording. And Bridget Maasland agrees with that criticism. “We have all binged the episodes, because of course we were also going to talk about it at Boulevard,” says the presenter in The BLVD Podcast.
She continues to Holly Mae, who is a guest on the podcast by telephone: “And we notice it so much – but you probably didn’t notice that, because of course you always appear in the ‘old’ retrospectives and Patty’s old life, because you are the younger version – that the old scenes are so incredibly beautiful.”
Fat suits
The images of the more recent Patty are therefore somewhat disappointing, according to Bridget. “It sometimes seemed as if the money had run out with the new Patty and in the ‘new’ era. With fat suits and a bit of bad wigs and with you everything is beautiful.”
Holly answers: “Well, I think that it is also visually a very nice and beautiful time. I think that was of course very nice and nice for me anyway.”
Don’t run out of money
That’s probably it, says Holly. “Yes, it is of course just visually a very nice time to watch and I also think that it is also a time that we all perhaps know less about or that it can surprise you more in that sense. But it was absolutely not that the money had run out, absolutely not.”
The Patty series is also much more serious than many people think. “Certainly, I think there was definitely a focus on really telling the story. I also expected: oh yes, I’m curious what people think this will be like, because we also know Patty. But I (…) think that a rather serious side has indeed been chosen there.”
