Longtime Kiss manager Doc McGhee talks about Paul Stanley and his live singing in a recent interview. In a conversation for the YouTube channel “Syncing Stanley”, who “exposes and pokes fun at the lies and hypocrisy of Kiss and Paul Stanley,” McGhee more or less pours out his heart. In any case, he insists that Paul Stanley sings live – but also says that his singing is reinforced by so-called backing tracks and backing vocals.

Here is the interview sequence:

Paul Stanley’s live singing

When asked if Stanley uses backing tracks, McGhee gives an ambiguous and difficult to understand answer: “He sings every track. So he sings to it. So he’s not lip-synching. He sings in full.” But, no less confused: “He’s amplified.” And then he appeases: “It’s just part of the process of making sure everyone hears the songs the way they were meant to be sung. Nobody wants to hear people doing something that isn’t real, which isn’t what they wanted to hear.”

In June 2022, footage emerged showing Stanley briefly standing away from the microphone during a show in Antwerp, Belgium, while his vocals continued to be transmitted over the system. Hopefully, if you’re a Kiss fan, you’ll be able to see whether Paul Stanley sings it all live or not on the upcoming tour – the farewell tour, which began in 2019, hits Europe in June.
