Diaz increasingly n. 1 of the triple: on his debut with the Fiamme Gialle shirt he clocked 17.40

The Cuban from Rome, in Ancona, remains one centimeter away from his best world performance in 2024. The 60 goes to a revived Ali (6″57) and an overflowing Dosso (7″06)

good luck

Italian athletics is experiencing a golden moment: confirmation comes from the second day of the indoor Tricolori in Ancona. This time, after 17 in 22 days, no national indoor records fell. But a series of prestigious results suggests that important ambitions can be cultivated at the World Championships in Glasgow scheduled for two weeks.

Go Andy

The high score, after Mattia Furlani’s 8.34 in the long run on Saturday, once again comes from the extension jump platform. Andy Diaz, making his debut with the Fiamme Gialle jersey, flies at 17.60 in the triple, one centimeter away from his best seasonal world performance achieved twelve days ago in Torun, Poland. The exploit comes on the sixth and final attempt of a series that also includes a 17.48 and a 17.32. The former Cuban followed by Fabrizio Donato will not be in Scotland: he will be able to wear the blue starting from August 1st, just in time for the Paris Olympics. But his status is increasingly clear. Emmanuel Ihemeje also goes beyond the 17 meter wall: 17.02.

Sprinters

Even Zaynab Dosso, with 7″06 in the 60, continues to make a loud statement. The girl from Reggio Emilia, with very effective action and relative competition, remains 4/100 from her fresh record which is worth the third world time of the year. The leap in quality made by Giorgio Frinolli’s student is enormous. As is that of the astonishing 14-year-old Kelly Doualla, from Lodi of Cameroonian origins, first year cadet of Cus Pro Patria Milano (she was born in November 2009): in Bergamo, in the morning, she ran the distance first in 7″34 and then in 7″ ”27! Emphasizing it would be wrong, but the time is worth all the Italian records in the youth category (from under 20 onwards) and a series of world first places… To clarify: in Ancona she would have been second, ahead of Gloria Hooper (7″31).

Launches

The Italian shot put couple, composed of Leo Fabbri and Zane Weir, have perhaps become accustomed too well. So much so that the 21.69 of the winner, the Italian-South African, and the 21.07 of the placed, the Florentine (with a zero in the sector from over 22 metres), leave a hint of a bad taste in the mouth… Especially in the aftermath of Ryan Crouser’s 22.80 at the US championships of Albuquerque.

Ali is there

From New Mexico, on the Italian night of Saturday, the 7″43 in 60 of the three-time world champion Noah Lyles, 1/100 better than Christian Coleman and progress on his own seasonal world championship, especially rebounded. It is clear that in comparison the 6″57 with which Chituru Ali won in Ancona is relative. But the Como player, after months out due to injury, is back permanently. The European champion Samuele Ceccarelli, in a dull period, had to settle for second place with 6″66.

Other titles

The 400 are by Edo Scotti (46″57) and Ayo Folorunso (53″20). The 800 of Francesco Pernici (1’49”15) and Eloisa Coiro (2’03”12). The 3000 of Federico Riva (7’57″89) who, as in the 1500, precedes Pietro Arese in the final and of Ludovica Cavalli who, with 7’47″76, climbs to fourth place in the Italian all-time list ahead of Federica Del Buono (8’48”93, in fifth) and Marta Zenoni (8’50”31, in sixth). Then the competitions: the auction goes to Simone Bertelli with 5.50, in the high jump the 18-year-old from Emilia Aurora Vicini shines who, with 1.92, takes away from Alessia Trost the Italian under 20 record that has stood since 2012. The triple goes to Veronica Zanon: 13.42 . In the women’s weight Anna Musci wins: 15.10. The heptathlon, with Lorenzo Naidon injured in the 60 hs, goes to Lorenzo Modugno with 54 13 points. Finally, the 4×200 relays: the titles go to Cus Pro Patria Milano (3’16″29) among the men and to Atletica Bergamo (3’43″91) among the women.
