Diana’s evening dress sold at auction for more than $1.1 million

Princess Diana’s former clothing items continue to fetch record prices at auction. More than 26 years after her death, a black and blue evening dress that Diana wore in public appearances in 1985 and 1986 was auctioned on Sunday evening (local time) in Los Angeles for 1.143 million US dollars (1.047 million euros), according to the auction house Julien’s Auctions announced.

The star-adorned evening gown by fashion designer Jacques Azagury was originally estimated to be worth up to $200,000. It is now the most expensive dress Diana wore sold at auction. It’s almost twice as expensive as the previous record holder, a 1991 Victor Edelstein velvet dress that fetched $604,800 at auction in January.

A white blouse that Diana wore in 1981 for her engagement photo with the current King Charles III. which had been valued at up to $100,000, was now auctioned off for $381,000. Just in September, the famous sweater with many white sheep and one black sheep, with which Diana caused a stir during a public appearance in 1981, was auctioned in New York for 1.1 million US dollars.

The mother of British Princes William and Harry died in a car accident in Paris on the night of August 31, 1997 at the age of 36. To this day, the ex-wife of the heir to the British throne, Charles, has many fans around the world as the “Queen of Hearts”.
