The police assume that it may have been an attack by one person: “This suspect was seen in Lutmastraat and ran away in the direction of Robijnstraat and Tolstraat. Detectives like to speak to witnesses who saw something early in the morning of Friday, August 5. Visuals are also very welcome.”
Several residents were woken up just after half past five this morning by the enormous blow that completely destroyed a front door of a house in Lutmastraat and caused several windows in the street to shatter. The police immediately started a large-scale neighborhood and trace investigation.
It has since become clear that the explosive was probably not at the front door but was placed on the sidewalk. “That makes it a bit of a puzzle for us what the intended target would have been and of course why,” said the police. “It is up to us to uncover the backgrounds per case, but it is crucial that Amsterdammers report it to us if they have seen anything about an incident or know more about the backgrounds.”
‘This fits in with the trend of criminals’
The spokesperson emphasizes that the possible attack probably has nothing to do with the nuisance problems that De Telegraaf reported earlier this week: “De Telegraaf published an article about the problem with youth in the Diamantbuurt. It is good to know that, as far as we are concerned, this incident transcends the youth problem and it rather fits in with the trend that explosives are regularly used by criminals to damage homes and businesses.”
