Eugene (dpa) – Around seven weeks before the World Championships, some top international athletes demonstrated good form at the Diamond League station at the World Championships site in Eugene.
Olympic champion Faith Kipyegon of Kenya ran her second best time overall in the 1500m in 3:52.59 minutes. The American shot put world record holder Ryan Crouser presented himself in outstanding early form and surpassed the 23-meter mark in the fifth competition of his career. His ball landed at 23.02 meters. The World Cup will take place in the US location from July 15th to 24th.
Berihu Aregawi from Ethiopia won over 5000 meters in 12:50.05 minutes ahead of Olympic champion Joshua Cheptegei (Uganda). Sam Parsons, starting for Frankfurt, finished eighth in 13:21.85, again below the norm for the European Championships from August 15th to 21st in Munich.
The day before, the German top runner Konstanze Klosterhalfen had shown herself to be in good shape. The 2019 World Cup third placed fourth over the rarely run two-mile distance in 9:16.73 minutes. The 25-year-old improved her previous best time of 9:18.16, which was also the best time by a German runner over this distance. Official German records or best times are not maintained over two miles. Victory went to Francine Niyonsaba (Burundi), who missed the world record of 8:59.08 minutes by around half a second.
In the women’s discus throw, which was brought forward for weather reasons, the Olympic silver medalist Kristin Pudenz from SC Potsdam took third place with 62.58 meters. Olympic champion Valarie Allmann (USA) won with 68.35 meters.
