DHL will increase prices for certain packages and services from July

Only last year did DHL raise the prices for parcels. The next increase follows exactly one year later. TECHBOOK reveals which packages and services customers will have to pay more for from July 2023.

Whether wages, costs for infrastructure or electricity and petrol – the rising prices do not stop at DHL. Exactly one year after the last major price increase, the parcel service provider is raising the cost of its services again. In the future, customers will have to pay up to 100 percent more for certain packages. In a few exceptions, however, it is also cheaper.

Cost of national packages from July

The current price increase at DHL affects both deliveries within Germany and abroad. From July, customers will also have to pay more for services such as cash on delivery or an age check.

Within Germany, the DHL price increase primarily affects heavy packages. For deliveries of up to 10 kilograms, the service provider will in future charge one euro more, i.e. a total of 10.49 euros. Particularly heavy goods up to 31.95 kilograms will cost 19.99 euros instead of 16.49 euros. Anyone who would like to additionally protect their shipment with transport insurance will pay EUR 6.99 for goods with a value of up to EUR 2,500 (previously EUR 6) or EUR 19.99 for goods with a value of up to EUR 25,000 (previously EUR 18). In the future, DHL will charge 28.99 euros for bulky goods instead of 26.78 euros, and customers can send rolled goods for 1.99 euros instead of 1.79 euros.

Payment for a delivery by cash on delivery will cost EUR 8.99 from July instead of the previous EUR 6.90. If the recipient’s age is also to be checked, customers then have to pay EUR 1.99 instead of the usual EUR 1.19. That’s an additional cost of a whopping 60 percent.

Juicy price increase also for international DHL packages

Additional costs of up to 60 percent for national deliveries are not small. The price increase is even more noticeable for international packages sent via DHL.

Within the EU, DHL charges between 50 cents and 3.50 euros more for a package – depending on the weight of the delivery. Outside the EU, the company divides into country zones in which some shipments are even slightly cheaper. Customers save at least one euro on a parcel of up to 5 kilograms to Switzerland, Great Britain or Ireland if they have it franked in the branch (EUR 29.99 instead of EUR 30.99). As a rule, however, customers have to pay more, with the price increase for DHL packages usually ranging between 1 and 3 euros. The complete list of all DHL prices You will find here.

DHL’s current price increase for parcels destined for Australia or Oceania is particularly noticeable. Due to the distance, deliveries to these countries have always been quite expensive, but now the costs are rising again significantly. Customers who previously paid 132.99 euros for parcels up to 31.5 kilograms in the branch are now charging a whopping 266.99 euros for such shipments from July – a surcharge of 100 percent. But even regular packages – such as those up to 10 kilograms – are significantly more expensive than they used to be. After all, customers have to pay 92.99 euros instead of 63.99 euros and thus 45 percent more.

Savings tip: Buy package stamps in advance

As mentioned, the price increase will come into effect from July 2023. Until then, DHL will continue to offer the services at the usual costs. So if you plan to send packages whose price will increase soon, you can still buy the stamps at the old price until the end of July. The company offers so-called Economy sets with 3 to 10 package stamps for online franking. They come to customers in the form of codes, which they can then redeem in the “Post & DHL” app, for example. The codes are valid for three years and will also be valid after the price increase.
