Frankfurt/Main (dpa) – The German Football League reacted with relief to the further easing of spectator restrictions announced by the federal and state governments.

“The decision offers an opening perspective – and is therefore very welcome as the next step out of the pandemic towards normality. We assume that upper limits for spectators will also be eliminated in the foreseeable future,” said DFL Managing Director Donata Hopfen.

The federal and state governments decided on Wednesday that from March 4th, up to 25,000 spectators would be allowed at major outdoor events with a maximum occupancy of 75 percent of the total capacity in the stadium. A maximum of 6,000 spectators may be admitted to halls with a maximum occupancy rate of 60 percent. From March 20th, all far-reaching protective measures against the corona virus will no longer apply.

“Just like cultural events and other sports, football stands for social interaction. We very much hope that these community experiences will soon be possible again without restrictions,” said Hopfen.
