DFB women: Birgit Prinz quits as team psychologist

As of: October 13, 2023 12:13 p.m

Birgit Prinz has ended her collaboration with the German women’s national team. She was a psychologist for the DFB team for four years.

Birgit Prinz is no longer the team psychologist for the German women’s national soccer team. The former national player and record goalscorer is ending her career after four years. Prinz has the feeling that the team needs a fresh start in order to be able to find its strengths again. “I see so much potential here, great people and playing skills. I sincerely wish the team every success for the major tasks ahead” said the 45-year-old in the press release.

“Always an important one contact person”

National team sporting director Joti Chatzialexiou regrets the decision and said: “We valued her very much for her professional competence, combined with her understanding of football and as a person. She was always an important contact person for us.” Prinz has been working for the DFB women since 2019 and is one of the most successful players in history. Among other things, she was voted world footballer three times (2003-2005) and is the German record player with 214 games (128 goals).

The women’s national team will play in the Nations League against Wales in Sinsheim on October 27th (5:45 p.m., live on ARD and in the live stream on sportschau.de) and will face Iceland in Reykjavik on October 31st.
