DFB: Watzke and Neuendorf are to take up posts in UEFA and FIFA – football

In an extraordinary meeting on Monday (April 11, 2022), the DFB executive committee unanimously voted in favor of the personal details, the DFB announced on Wednesday. Peter Peters is therefore ready to make his position on the FIFA Council available. Rainer Koch had previously announced the same for his UEFA Executive Committee post. The DFB announced that the presidents of FIFA and UEFA had been informed of the intended personnel changes.

According to the Executive Committee’s decision, DFB President Neuendorf should take a seat on the FIFA Council, and DFL Supervisory Board Chairman Watzke on the UEFA Executive Committee. However, the reorganization will last until 2023.

Change of personnel only possible in 2023 due to application deadlines

A simple change of people is not possible because the DFB is not generally entitled to seats on the FIFA Council and the UEFA Executive Committee. Although representatives stand for election at the UEFA Congress at the suggestion of associations such as the DFB, the people are elected. In UEFA, therefore, a new election must be held as to who sits on the Executive Committee and who sits on the FIFA Council for UEFA. The DFB would have good chances with Neuendorf and Watzke candidatures, but no guarantee of these places.

In addition, Watzke and Neuendorf can only stand for election in 2023. The deadline for candidatures to represent UEFA on the FIFA Council is three months before the UEFA Congress and two months before the UEFA Executive Committee. However, the congress in Vienna is planned for May 11, 2022, which is too short notice – so patience until 2023 is required.
