The “One Love” dispute between the German Football Association (DFB) and world association FIFA may end up in court.
“FIFA has forbidden us a sign of diversity and human rights. They have combined this with massive threats of sporting sanctions without specifying them. The DFB is checking whether this action by FIFA was legal,” said DFB spokesman Steffen Simon on “SID “-Inquiry.
The argument about the captain’s armband with the diversity slogan could end up before the International Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS). This is reported by the “Bild” newspaper, citing the association’s board of directors.
The possibility of a so-called application for preliminary legal protection at the ad hoc division of the CAS is being examined. This is set up during the World Cup in Qatar to make a decision within 48 hours.
The CAS informed the news agency “AFP” that it had “not yet received anything”. Basically, according to the statutes, the case should first end up with the FIFA Complaints Committee. There is no precedent at the CAS for this type of dispute.
The German opening game against Japan, in which captain Manuel Neuer should have worn the controversial bandage, will take place on Wednesday (2 p.m. CET/ARD and Magenta).
By going to the CAS, the DFB could at least get permission to wear the bandage in the other World Cup games.
