DFB Vice President Celia Sasic is lobbying the German Football Association to equalize bonus payments for the men’s and women’s national teams.
“I don’t understand why the value of winning a tournament should be any different for the men’s team,” said the former national player in the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung”. “For me, this change is absolutely necessary. Even the Chancellor has said that he does not understand that the achievement is not rewarded equally.”
The topic of “equal pay” has been discussed at the DFB for a long time. At the 2022 European Championships in England, Chancellor Olaf Scholz advocated equal pay for male and female national players. If they had triumphed at the World Cup in Australia in the summer of 2023, the German footballers, who had already been eliminated after the preliminary round, would have received around 245,000 euros each – but from the world association FIFA. At the men’s World Cup in Qatar at the end of 2022, the DFB would have paid each player 400,000 euros if they won the title.
Also same training conditions
Many national players have emphasized in the past that the debate is primarily about reasonable salaries throughout the Bundesliga and about “equal play”, i.e. equal training conditions. According to association president Bernd Neuendorf, the latter are now the same for men and women at the DFB.
According to his own statement, Sasic has not yet been able to talk to the new DFB managing director Andreas Rettig about the topic. “I’m trying to get in touch with him. We haven’t spoken yet. We haven’t made it yet. We’ve already made attempts, but haven’t gotten around to it yet,” said the 35-year-old.
