Lukas Nmecha from VfL Wolfsburg was always in the squad for the German national team this year, if fit, and played in seven out of ten games. However, the 23-year-old center forward will not take part in the World Cup in Qatar. As his club announced, the native of Hamburg has to pause for several weeks due to a partial rupture of the patellar tendon in his right knee. An operation is not necessary.
“It’s a shame that Lukas will miss the last competitive game this year and won’t be able to attend the World Cup in Qatar either. We wish him a quick and smooth healing process,” said Wolfsburg sports director Jörg Schmadtke in a statement on the VfL website.
After the absence of Timo Werner (26; syndesmosis ligament rupture), Nmecha’s injury is the next setback for national coach Hansi Flick’s offensive.
