DFB team: Leon Goretzka admits mistakes – “Too much surrounded”

Convinced by the Home EM project

National player Leon Goretzka is convinced of the 2024 home European Championship project under national coach Julian Nagelsmann. The FC Bayern midfielder said in the “Copa TS” podcast that he thought the contractual situation was a clever solution because it meant that no one was talking about it. The first decisions by the DFB and Nagelsmann were extremely good.

“The project is designed for the European Championships. And yet the credo is set by us and also by the coach: We no longer talk about the fact that we want to ignite euphoria in our country, but we simply want to play football that then, in turn, ignites euphoria. This order is crucial,” Goretzka continued.

At the end of September, Nagelsmann had only signed a contract as Hansi Flick’s successor as national coach until the end of the home European Championship next year. In his first two international matches he won 3-1 with the DFB team against the USA and played 2-2 against Mexico. On Saturday (8:45 p.m.) the DFB team will play against Turkey in Berlin and on November 21st (8:45 p.m.) in Vienna against Austria.

Goretzka spoke of how mistakes had been made in dealing with the fans in the past, “that we surrounded ourselves too much”. Of course they want to be more open now, but he still finds discussions about autograph sessions and public training sessions “ridiculous,” said the 28-year-old. “At the end of the day, it’s still about us playing good football and that’s again the top priority. Everything else will then take care of itself. I am 100 percent convinced that everyone in Germany is up for this tournament. And we’re just there to get ourselves in good shape until then and play a good tournament. Then we can have a great summer.”

There should still be a fair competition in which performance decides, unlike before the 2018 World Cup. The status of being the best does not necessarily mean that one will always perform better. Ter Stegen has also been playing at the same level as Neuer for years and the number of international matches should not decide who is in goal, because Neuer also represents added value as No. 2.
Hummels is currently one of the best IVs in the league and was in the last …
