DFB team: Inter Milan’s Robin Gosens is fighting for a World Cup ticket: “In danger”

Before the CL game at FC Bayern

Robin Gosens has 14 caps since his DFB debut in September 2020, but the 28-year-old recently lost his position on the left flank to Leipzig’s David Raum. Before Inter Milan’s upcoming Champions League appearance at FC Bayern Munich (Wednesday, from 9 p.m. in the TM live ticker), Gosens announced that he wanted to fight for his place in national coach Hansi Flick’s World Cup squad to be announced on November 10 .

According to media reports, Gosens is one of Flick’s provisional squad list (see gallery below), but also sees himself exposed to considerable competition with the well-established space and Freiburg’s Christian Günter. Nico Schlotterbeck and Thilo Kehrer can also theoretically fill in the defensive variant on the left side, Gosens’ chance of appearances or a place in the final squad should also depend on Flick’s preferred tactical choice and the decisions about a three-man or four-man chain.

Robin Gosens on World Cup chances with the DFB team: “I hope the coach sees that”

At Inter, too, the native of Emmerich did not get beyond the status of a supplementary player, after playing twelve match days he only played 181 minutes in Serie A. Since moving to Milan, his market value has fallen by more than 10 million to 22 million euros . In the “premier class” he played his first game over 90 minutes against FC Bayern at the beginning of September.

“I scored a goal here at the European Championship against Portugal. That changed my career,” the professional announced at a press conference with a view to a possible appearance in Munich’s Allianz Arena, adding: “I played well in the national team. All I can do now is train well and play well. I hope the coach sees that.”

When specifically asked about his World Cup chance, Gosens presented himself reflected: “Participation is in danger for me,” explained the long-time Atalanta professional. In the three remaining games before the final squad nomination, he will do everything to focus on the performance at Inter: “Players who play well at the club are also at the World Cup.”
