At the end of July 2021, Anton Stach switched from SpVgg Greuther Fürth to 1. FSV Mainz 05, where he immediately became a regular and even made it into the German national soccer team. A development that should not have escaped the notice of some top clubs.
The Bundesliga clubs Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Mönchengladbach are said to have kept an eye on Anton Stach, as well as “various clubs” from England and Italy. This is reported by “Sky”.
Good for the supposedly interested parties: Stach should be “open to the next step,” says the report. The contract of the central midfielder in Mainz ends in the summer of 2024. However, there is an option to extend the working paper by another year.
As a possible transfer, the TV broadcaster puts a sum between ten and 15 million euros in the room.
Stach comes from the youth of Werder Bremen. In the U19s he laced up for VfL Osnabrück, in 2017 he switched to SSV Jeddeloh II and a year later to the second team at VfL Wolfsburg. In 2020 the step to SpVgg Greuther Fürth followed – and the steep ascent.
The U21 European Champion of 2021 recently played his 50th Bundesliga game. National coach Hansi Flick Stach has already called up twice for the DFB selection.
There is a need for action at BVB
Last summer, Mainz proactively blocked possible poaching attempts and emphasized several times that offers could be saved, Stach was only in the process of taking the second step in his career. It remains to be seen how Mainz will react to any offers after the current season.
What is known, however, is that BVB will need to take action in the center of the pitch. It’s a done deal that Mo Dahoud will leave Dortmund in the summer, superstar Jude Bellingham is also considered a very hot contender for a change of scenery.
It is questionable, however, whether one can already trust Stach to fill in the footsteps of those named.
