“Fair” talks with ÖFB
DFB manager Oliver Bierhoff reacted on Thursday on the TV channel “Sky” to the Austrian Football Association’s recruitment of talent Paul Wanner (16) from FC Bayern. The 53-year-old confirmed “fair” talks with Austria’s sports director Peter Schöttel and at the same time put on the euphoria brakes with a view to the second youngest debutant in Bundesliga history.
“It’s nice when such a young player causes a sensation. But you have to try to calm it all down again. Because a lot hit the boy,” says Bierhoff. He has only heard positive things about Wanner from the DFB’s youth coaching circle and there is no doubt that the attacking midfielder is “a great talent”. However, “one cannot yet speak of a comparison with Jamal Musiala, who has already shown this on a different level”.

DFB manager Bierhoff on FC Bayern’s talent Wanner: “In good spirits”
Wanner, who was born in Dornbirn, Austria and can choose between two nations, has played seven times for the DFB U17s. The association will “always try hard for him and we hope to be able to continue to successfully shape this path with him. But “step by step”, explained manager Bierhoff and added: “We are in good spirits.”

The youngster made three appearances for the record champions in the Bundesliga within two weeks in January and, according to FCB sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic, signed a “long-term professional contract” with his training club on Deadline Day. Most recently, Wanner received a starting market value of 750,000 euros. In a conversation with “Kicker” on Wednesday, ÖFB sports director Schöttel confirmed the general interest in Wanner, according to which Franco Foda, head coach of the senior national team, had already signaled an interest in Wanner.
