On Thursday, second division team 1. FC Kaiserslautern announced the separation of head coach Dirk Schuster and his assistant Sascha Franz. A little later, the names of possible successors began to emerge – including a real DFB legend who is anything but unknown at Betzenberg.
Miroslav Klose is said to be about to return to his old footballing home. This is what “Sky” reports. Accordingly, the 2014 world champion is one of the chosen ones who could follow Schuster.
At the age of almost 22, Klose began his unexpected and rapid rise to professional status in the ranks of the Lauter team.
The attacker later laced up his football boots for Werder Bremen, FC Bayern and Lazio Rome. Klose also played 137 international matches for the DFB team and became the most successful goalscorer in the national team’s history with 71 goals.
Klose gained his first coaching experience as Joachim Löw’s assistant at the DFB and as coach of FC Bayern’s U17s and later assistant coach of the professionals. The 45-year-old took over a senior management position for the first time at the Austrian club SCR Altach in the summer, but had to resign after 23 games. Now the next attempt could follow.
First rejection for 1. FC Kaiserslautern?
According to “Sky” and “kicker”, however, Klose is not the only candidate. Lautern is also said to have had an eye on Michael Wimmer. Wimmer, who was most recently active in Germany at VfB Stuttgart, is still under contract with Austria Vienna until the end of June 2025.
“Sky” also reports that the original top favorite has already given the Red Devils a basket. Enrico Maßen, who was relieved of his duties at FC Augsburg during the season, is said to have told Lautern that he did not want to take on another job until the new year.
