DFB goalscorer Schüller out of corona quarantine

Lea Schüller may be able to play again in the European Championship quarter-finals against Austria.

According to the DFB, the 24-year-old striker from FC Bayern Munich has tested negative for the first time since her positive corona test last Tuesday at the European Championship in England.

“I saw a very happy face this morning: Lea met me, thank God she’s finally negative,” said Joti Chatzialexiou, head of national teams at the German Football Association, at a DFB press conference. Next up are cardiology tests.

Use against Austria open

Chatzialexiou didn’t want to specify when Schüller will start training again and how high her chances of playing against Austria are on Thursday. “We will add Lea when she is really fit,” said the 46-year-old.

Schüller had been isolated at team headquarters in Brentford for the past few days. The top scorer (26 goals in 40 international matches) and Bundesliga top scorer last season (16 goals) missed both the 2-0 win against Spain and the 3-0 win against Finland in the preliminary round.

The DFB women will play in Brentford on Thursday for a place in the semi-finals. According to the UEFA protocol, Schüller can play again if she tests negative after five days and is symptom-free.
