Frankfurt/Main (dpa) – Before the season finale, the German Football Association is calling for fans to refrain from rushing to the pitch.
“On the one hand, we don’t want to dampen the joy and emotion, but from the point of view of those responsible for security, it is absolutely desirable if the stands are celebrated and not the square is committed,” said DFB security expert Hendrik Große Lefert on Sky . “We always have to reckon with the fact that such situations involve risks in which an organizer can only intervene to a limited extent.”
The spectators are asked to participate in the security concepts, said Große Lefert. “We all have images in mind of people crowding together. Of course we want it to remain a safe stadium experience and we’ll do everything to ensure that.” The DFB control committee had started investigations after fans of 1. FC Köln and FC Schalke 04 rushed to the pitch last matchday. Both clubs were invited to comment.
