In the Bundesliga, Mainz 05 are bottom of the table without a win. Bo Svensson has ruled out resigning and is instead hoping for the much-needed sense of success in the DFB Cup with second division club Hertha BSC.

Now the focus is entirely on the cup game against Hertha BSC. “We have a lot of work ahead of us, that’s completely clear. But I believe in this team and I believe that we have the necessary quality. But we now have to continually bring it onto the pitch.”
Despite the crisis – Svensson is not running away
Mainz has so far reacted in a way that is untypical for the industry to the Bundesliga club’s winless streak. Despite repeated self-criticism, Bo Svensson, as coach of the bottom team, is not thinking about resigning. “That’s completely out of the question now. I don’t think it’s appropriate to think about it now,” explained the 44-year-old. “I’m here and I really want us to be successful again,” added Svensson at the press conference before the cup game in Berlin.
The Dane also questioned himself after the 2-2 draw at VfL Bochum. However, sports director Martin Schmidt said that the question of coaching did not arise. “It’s remarkable when you can work in peace like I do,” said Svensson a few days after the game, but emphasized: “It’s also a fact that I have to deliver.”
Hope for an initial spark in the cup
After the decline in the Bundesliga with no win this season, Svensson and his team are hoping for the much-needed sense of success at least in the DFB Cup. “That feeling of sitting in the dressing room afterwards with a win can give us a lot.” Against the second division relegated team, which Svensson attests to being “a stable team with a clear way of playing”. “It’s not an easy task in our situation, but we definitely want to move forward.”
