1860 starts with more train to the gate
the KSC tried to take control from the start, but the Munich Lions were the more dangerous team. Fabian Greilinger had the first good chance, but was denied by Karlsruhe goalkeeper Marius Gersbeck (13′). In other promising situations, precision was lacking in the last pass.
In an intense game, Karlsruhe didn’t do much on the offensive either. In the 40th minute, the second division team only had their first dangerous action – Philip Heise’s direct free kick 1860-keepers However, Marco Hiller parried confidently.
Karlsruhe puts a lot of pressure after the break
The visitors had their first sense of achievement after 50 minutes, but Lucas Cueto’s goal was disallowed. After Fabian Schleusener shot the post, the goal scorer was just offside. This was also confirmed by the VAR, who will be used in the DFB Cup from the round of 16.
A little later, Marvin Wanitzek had the next good chance for the Karlsruhe team, who were getting stronger, but his volley missed the opposing goal (57th). Six minutes later, Schleusener failed again at Hiller, Wanitzek also with a long-range shot (65th).
Greilinger’s arm gives Karlsruhe the goal of the evening
The midfielder was able to score from eleven meters. After a handball by Greilinger, who had blocked a cross with an outstretched arm when trying to tackle a tackle, KSC were awarded a penalty which Wanitzek used to take the lead 1-0 (69′).
However, the lions were unimpressed and switched back to the offensive themselves – and that was almost quickly rewarded. After a somewhat confusing action, Erik Tallig appeared free in front of the goal, but shot the shot at Gersbeck, who stormed out (77′).
On the other hand, Schleusener missed the decision in favor of KSC from a short distance in the 86th minute. Nevertheless, the victory was no longer in danger. Phillipp Steinhart missed the last chance for 1860 Munich in injury time.
