Deutsche Welle: the measures of the Russian authorities against are incomprehensible and excessive, we will challenge them

Deutsche Welle believes that the ban on broadcasting in Russia and the closure of local bureaus is an excessive measure on the part of the Russian authorities, and will challenge this decision, according to a statement by the general director of the TV channel, Peter Limbur, received by RBC.
“The measures taken by the Russian authorities are incomprehensible and represent an overreaction. We are played with in a way that the media only has to deal with autocracies. We are officially protesting this absurd reaction from the Russian government and will take legal action to challenge the announced measures,” he said.

Limbur promised that the TV channel would continue broadcasting until its representatives were officially notified of the need to stop it. The steps taken by Moscow will not affect Deutsche Welle’s coverage of events in Russia, rather the channel will expand it, the CEO added.
The Russian Foreign Ministry announced measures against Deutsche Welle on Thursday, February 3. Thus, broadcasting and broadcasting of the TV channel in Russia will be stopped, correspondent offices will be closed, and the accreditation of all employees of the Russian bureau will be cancelled. In addition, the Russian departments are initiating the procedure for recognizing the TV channel as a foreign agent.
