Gregor Kobel has extended his contract with Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund until 2028, thereby nipping any transfer speculation – such as a move to FC Bayern – in the bud. A contract detail that has now come to light underlines Kobel’s connection to BVB.
Gregor Kobel does not have an exit clause at Borussia Dortmund, as “Sky” reports. Reporter Florian Plettenberg said this was confirmed by “everyone involved in this deal,” according to the “Transfer Update” show on Monday.
If a club plans to transfer the BVB goalkeeper over the next few years, the transfer fee would have to be freely negotiated. According to Plettenberg, a deal next summer would, as things currently stand, theoretically bring 50 to 60 million euros into Dortmund’s coffers.
It is clear that the Revierklub will have no interest in selling the service provider. The 25-year-old was promoted to vice-captain last summer and has continued to impress with good performances this season.
According to “Sky”, Kobel was made to enjoy the extension with, among other things, a hefty salary increase. From now on, the former Stuttgart player is expected to earn over nine million euros gross per year. “Bild” had also previously reported an annual salary of around ten million euros.
Kobel is developing into a “world-class” goalkeeper at BVB
BVB managing director Hans-Joachim Watzke also praised the goalkeeper during the extension: “Gregor Kobel’s sporting development in recent years has deeply impressed us all. His signing of this long-term contract is a great commitment to BVB.” Sports director Sebastian Kehl added: “Gregor has developed into a world-class goalkeeper in Dortmund who has aroused the interest of many top clubs in Europe. We are proud that, despite all his options, we were able to inspire him for a future at BVB .”
Instead of until 2026, the Swiss will now be between the black and yellow posts until 2028.
