Destroyer sounds like a bit of a rush job, but still manages to raise a wide smile

Canadian Dan Bejar broke through in the indie premier league as Destroyer with the album kaputt (2011). The eighties sound of New Order and Roxy Music (the album Avalon) still fits him best, as it turns out on the new album labyrinthitis† Physically it won’t be released until June, and the album also sounds a bit like a rush job. But the bass line borrowed from Peter Hook in It’s in Your Heart Now is enough for a big smile and June also reflects that beautiful, indefinable floating feeling of kaputt† A little more care with the compositions would have done the album well, but Bejar once again comes with nice retro sounds from the eighties to encapsulate his ever sinister voice.
