Badminton club Duinwijck won convincingly 5-3 against competitor Almere in the Eredivisie on Sunday afternoon. A lot has changed for the North Hollanders this season. The national champion greeted a number of new top players, but saw the coach temporarily leave for South America.
Despite all those changes, the badminton players have won the first seven games of the season.
World trip
It was a remarkable start to the season for the Duinwijck badminton players. After two games, head coach Jacco Arends (temporarily) left the club. He went on a long-established world trip and is currently in South America. The strings therefore came into the hands of Stan Put.
Put previously coached the Haarlem-squad, but retired three seasons ago. “At the beginning of this year I was asked back by the club and trainer. The plan was to work with Arends. It was a great challenge for me to coach the first team together. For the time being I am alone in the group.”
New faces
The selection also has a number of new faces. For example, Aram Mahmoud and Nadia Choukri joined the club. Ymke van der Aar also joined the selection. She returned after a period with competitor Drop Shot.
Title Candidate
With the renewed selection, the objectives are clear according to newcomer Mahmoud. “I came here because Duinwijck is a nice club and is one of the title candidates. We have a nice, young group. Everyone is good at badminton. We have a lot of confidence in the team and a new national title.”
