Second division SV Kapfenberg and coach Ismail Atalan surprisingly separated on Saturday. The 45-year-old German had taken over the Styrian in the summer of 2024 and took third place in the last season-the best end to end since the Bundesliga descent of the falcons in 2012. Atalan itself was named second division coach of the year by the Bundesliga itself. A successor has not yet been named.
According to media reports, the reason for the separation is a drastic budget shortening, as a result of which Atalan and Kapfenberg agreed on an amicable dissolution of the contract that was originally running until 2026. Update 5:29 p.m.: Kapfenberg later confirmed this in an updated version of the press release. “Under these conditions, both Head of Football Carlos Leal and head coach Ismail Atalan see the originally issued goal ‘promotion to the 1st league’ as no longer realistic – and have decided to end their work in Kapfenberg,” it says.
“It was a great honor for me to be part of this club – to work in Kapfenberg, to get to know the people here and to move so much together with a great team of coaches and a special team. It was a year that I will never forget. I wish KSV1919 and everyone involved only the best for the future,” said Atalan about his departure.
