The Bayern women hosted their opponents from Paris in the Allianz Arena. But despite a powerful performance, FCB goes away empty-handed. Also because of a clear weakness.
The women of FC Bayern Munich lost the first leg of the quarter-finals against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League. Coach Jens Scheuer’s team had to accept a 1:2 draw and are now going to Paris with outsider chances.
Bayern were actually the better team, had more possession and more chances. But the French took advantage of two corner kicks and revealed problems in the set-up of Bayern’s defence. Benkarth representative Janina Leitzig repeatedly showed insecurities when running out, which even her defensive line could not conceal. PSG striker Katoto used two of her chances (19th and 71st minute).
After all: the connection by Klara Bühl was worth seeing. The national striker hammered a free kick from the edge of the penalty area into the Paris goal (84th) and thus saved at least a few chances for the next round. The live ticker to read:

71 minutes – GOAL FOR PARIS! A goalkeeper error by Leitzig. She goes out when Paris takes a corner kick, but doesn’t get the ball. Katoto takes advantage of this again and heads the ball in.
67 minutes – Next huge chance for Bayern! A strong counterattack lands at Bühl, who pulls into the center with a hook. Votikova parries the shot with a strong reflex. It remains 1-0 for PSG.
66 minutes – Post! Kumagai pulls into Paris’ sixteen via the right half-space and brings the ball dangerously into the backcourt, where Lohmann is lurking. But the midfielder fails because of the aluminum.
65 minutes – With the addition of Sydney Lohmann, Bayern coach Scheuer wants to set new impulses from the center. But a long ball on Bühl is too long and ends up out of bounds.
60 minutes – A corner from Bühl was also unsuccessful, but Gwinn’s shot from the second row descended dangerously towards the PSG goal, but went just over it.
58 minutes – Hamraoui tries for PSG from the second row, but Leitzig saves the ball for a corner. The subsequent entry remains unsuccessful.
55 minutes – Bayern comes back on Bühl’s right side. This time, the national striker refrains from entering the ball and completes it herself. But the ball lands on the side netting.
50 minutes – PSG is again lurking for ball losses, stays close to the woman and has a good grip in a duel.

4 minutes – Next chance for Bayern! Gwinn is fouled on the left, Magull takes the free-kick due in the center, where Votikova misses and falls to the ground. But the Munich women can’t get the ball on target in a controlled manner. Lucky for Paris!
2nd minute – Klara Bühl intercepts a ball in midfield and pushes it forward. Lina Magull plays the ball on the outside. The cross is sharp, but is intercepted by Paris’ Votikova.
