Brandenburg is spending less and less money on housing subsidies. Although more and more apartments are being applied for and built.
9,235 building permits for 13,654 new apartments were issued in 2021 – 19 percent more than in the previous year. But Infrastructure Minister Guido Beermann (CDU) reduced the funding from 167 to 152 million euros. This year only 140 million euros are available.
One of the consequences: instead of 871 price-controlled apartments, only 622 were built. The Ministry of Science funded 391 student apartments. More and more older social housing is falling out of price maintenance. Seven years ago there were 53,000, now 20,000.
The minister wants to increase their number again. Although the country now has to save because of the Corona debt. Beermann: “150 million euros per year for social housing are realistic.”
If the CDU politician gets his way with Finance Minister Katrin Lange (SPD), there will again be 24,000 social housing units in the country by 2030.
