Despite rumors: Charlène of Monaco (finally) returns home | royals

Princess Charlène (44) has hardly stayed in Monaco in recent months and years. According to the tabloid press, she fled to her homeland of South Africa because of marital problems and a possible divorce from Prince Albert, although that stay was the result of a medical procedure gone wrong and a subsequent infection, according to the Monegasque palace.

Four months ago, Charlène briefly returned to Monaco, but was then rushed back to a private clinic in Switzerland for what her husband described as “exhaustion, both emotional and physical.” That prompted the press to write pieces in recent weeks asking how much longer she can stay away from her children and her duties, and speculating that she would “never return to Monaco.”

That does not seem to be the case: a press release from the palace shows that Charlène has recently returned to the principality. “After consultation with her doctors, and as her recovery is going well, the Highnesses have agreed that Princess Charlène can continue to recover in the principality, near her husband and her children,” it said.

“She has just returned to Monaco, where she was happy to see her family and loved ones again. The coming weeks should allow her to settle down again before gradually resuming her official activities. In order to facilitate her full recovery, and since Princess Charlène still needs peace and serenity, the prince couple asks that her private life and family environment continue to be respected.”
