Despite her brain damage, Aisha (14) can still go to school thanks to this help

Dragonfly together with it Liliane Fund

Aisha (in the picture above 9 years old) was born with brain damage. At first, no one noticed anything special about her. When she was one year old, her mother Grace took her to the hospital because of intestinal complaints. A doctor there said bluntly that Aisha had a disability and that it was because of her. Because she ate something wrong during her pregnancy. Grace believed the doctor. She felt guilty and powerless.

Huge development

Until she was four years old, Aisha could not talk, stand or sit on her own. But since her mother came into contact with a partner organization of the Liliane Foundation, Aisha has made leaps and bounds. Through physical therapy and speech therapy, she can now run and talk. She also goes to school, where she learns to read, write and count, and she has many friends. No one would have ever dreamed that Aisha would progress like this. She has developed tremendously in a few years. And Grace also gets lessons: she learns to deal with her daughter’s disability.

Heavy time

Due to Covid-19, Aisha and her family have had a rough time. They have moved away from Aisha’s friends and her family has had to work hard to get food on the table every day. The school and the rehabilitation center are closed, but Aisha has not been idle despite the lockdown and all the setbacks. She does her exercises and school assignments online at home, with the help of her mother and her teachers, of course. It is expected that Aisha will be able to physically go to school from school year 2022-2023 and see her teachers and friends again in real life.

With the support of the Liliane Foundation, Aisha now has a tablet, computer, a good chair and a table to follow her online classes at home. She also got new glasses. Important now that she spends hours a day in front of a computer.
