Despite fourth place: Aleksander Aamodt Kilde wins downhill title – alpine skiing – winter sports

Kriechmayr takes first place

Kilde had to tremble. After this intermediate result, he was three points ahead of Feuz. No one was allowed to get between the two, otherwise the Swiss would overtake him. Neither Mayer nor Paris could endanger the times of the two. Only overall World Cup winner Odermatt set out to attack the leaders. But the Swiss could not bestow the title on his compatriot, he sat ahead of Kilde, but Feuz’s time also beat.

When the Austrian Kriechmayr beat Odermatt’s time with an aggressive, fast run and thus also that of the two title candidates, Kilde could hardly win the title. Because from the third place the point gaps become smaller.

13 points are enough for Kilde

He would have needed three places difference. So it remained with the victory of Kilde. In the end, 13 points was a tight but sufficient cushion to secure the first title in the downhill world cup. In 2020 he had already won the overall World Cup.

Disappointing race for DSV starters

The last World Cup race ended disappointingly for the German downhill skiers. With 16th place, Baumann just missed out on the points. Ferstl was 23rd. The best German was Dominik Schwaiger, who missed the top ten in 12th place, but secured World Cup points again.

Schwaiger thus moved ahead of his teammate Baumann (19th) to 18th place. Ferstl ended the downhill season in 22nd place.

On Thursday, the Super G races continue in France, before after the team event on Friday, a giant slalom and a slalom are on the program for the weekend.
